then via the 101 interstate
Los Angeles
then via route 66 (lifetime dream... perfect timing!)
Phoenix AR
Santa Fe NM
Dallas Tx
off route 66
New Orleans La
Mobile Al

Memphis Tn (and to see Jim, Dawn and Paul)

Savannah Georgia
Charleston SC
Charlotte NC

Virginia ??

So what do you all think? Did I miss anything huge? I really did want to see Chicago and some other northern states but I am only 30 with plenty of time.

  1. Wow, wow, wow. I'm loving every minute of what you're doing! Here are some comments on your tentative plan: It is so great that you are keeping it tentative; spontaneous is good!!! It's also good inspiration to leave some eager targets for upcoming travels.
    Seattle WA (I've heard that Olympic National Park is stupendous); Portland OR (I've heard great things about it);
    San Francisco (A must!); Los Angeles (Have you got particular targets here? We've only spent time around the airport and flown over a few times, as well as reading about it; just could never get a sense of it); then via route 66 (soooooo cool!); Phoenix AR (The city itself and surrounding area are very urban/suburban--northern NJ transplated to the desert. But the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix is marvelous); How about SEDONA & GRAND CANYON? I've been to Sedona; it's beautiful; Santa Fe NM (Oh yeah! Check out Taos, NM too--north of Santa Fe; Taos Pueblo is a Native American community that is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site; it has been continuous inhabited by Native Americans for over 1,000 years!); Dallas Tx (Dallas is more eastern urban that its sister city, Fort Worth. Forth Worth is much more western. The Stockyards are a trip back in time); New Orleans La (Awesome, awesome, awesome! We've got lots of suggestions of what & where in NOLA); Memphis TN (Blues, BBQ and Elvis! We loved Memphis! Don't miss Graceland and its accompanying museums);
    Savannah Georgia (definitely!);
    Check out Beaufort & Low Country between Savannah & Charleston; Charleston SC (I have heard nothing but fabulous things about Charleston); Virginia (There is SO much American history in Virginia; Om particular, Williamsburg is a must-see if you have the time); DC (There's just nothing else like it. It's the perfect place to take a bus or trolley tour to get some history, see the visual sites, and avoid the driving/parking issues. Also, I'm not a religious girl but the Washington National Cathedral is an architectural--and I dare say, spiritual--marvel. Probably my favorite part of DC): Maryland (Can you say crabcakes!?!); Winterthur in Delaware is a one-of-kind estate/museum complex. It is exceptional.); Eastern PA (There is so much in this area. We know and love it, visiting again and again.) You go, go, go girl! Laura

  2. Hi Christina: I just composed a detailed response to your agenda above and then it got rejected...too long (imagine that!) I'll try to re-create it in pieces perhaps. You've got some great targets. It's good too keep things tentative so that there's lots of space for SPONTANEITY! Laura
